What is Forensic Scheduling?

The role of a forensic scheduler is a respectable and highly demanded role within construction. The key responsibilities of the role are to identify any potential delays within the project and the effect they may have on the final project outcome. As a forensic scheduling analysist, you will need to logically analyse a project. From here you then need to determine the root cause of delays, assess what factors are responsible and calculate any financial consequences. In addition to this you need to have the ability to confidently resolve disputes regarding project delays. With all these responsibilities it is clear to see that those working in forensic scheduling need to have a good understanding of the evaluation of a project as well as confidence in their skills. The Construction Management Institute’s course in Forensic Scheduling offers you the opportunity to assess your current capabilities and address areas that you do not feel are your personal strengths.

Why is Forensic Scheduling important?

Due to its nature, forensic scheduling plays an important part in the success of a construction project. Studies show that although we have come a long way from where we once were in terms of construction project success rates, that there is still some way to go. The quality of a construction project can be impacted in a number of ways. If a project exceeds its planned budget, this is not a success, and can cause major delays and issues. Secondly, is a project does not meet its deadlines, this can have a monumental effect of the outcome of the project. It’s important to reflect on the effect quality construction has on the economy. The economy has faced numerous challenges over the past few years but construction and the results it can bring can have a considerable effect. Quality construction positively impacts the economy, bringing new opportunities for staffing, housing or even retail opportunities. Poor quality construction however can take away from this and have the opposite effect. It can delay employment start dates, it can incur further costs to the economy, or it can use an increase in resources that we are already struggling to provide.
